Longview Studios Brings Home First Place for Local Club
April 08, 2003
When I agreed to take over the Newsletter for a local Gold Wing Road Riders Club, little did I know that it would garner them FIRST PLACE in the Statewide Newsletter Competition. As a matter of fact, I didn't even know there WAS a competition. I just did what I always do — look over the criteria, research other newsletters in the organization, find out what was important for members to know and then provide the most readable, appropriate design possible. I took special care to redraw and convert to a resizable, digital file, a part of their existing logo for a clean, crisp updated banner at the top. (**) The organization has requirements that must be met and meeting them while still maintaining a clean uncluttered look was at times a real challenge.
Changing the color for added pizazz and providing a surprise article in each 8 page issue, I enticed members to read it cover to cover. Writing an article each month takes a good deal more time than would normally be required for the standard Newsletter project, but I felt it provided a different perspective. Additionally, I designed the back page ad for the local sponsor to insure consistent quality.
The result is a fresh new look that infused new interest both within the membership, the larger organization and the community as well.
A second redesign was provided several years later
**Redrawing extremely old logos and servicemarks is a long, tedious job not recommended for the sake of your sanity. There is no magic button to instantly convert a raster image (jpeg, gif, bmp, png, tiff) to a clean vector image.
