Printing 101
Question: Can I print the photos from the website and will they look
good?
Answer: You can print them but they may look fuzzy. (It's what we
call pixelated.)
Why? Because web graphics and photos are usually saved at a
resolution (how many pixels or dots make up a picture) of 72 ppi. This
is standard to keep the total size of the website as low as possible.
Printing resolution for an inkjet requires about 150 dpi and will look
reasonably good when printed on an inkjet on glossy paper. Don't
try to enlarge the picture.
I like 200 dpi because it gives me some room to enlarge and/or crop the
photo without losing clarity.
Commercial printing (just in case you ever wanted to know) usually
requires between 260, 300, or higher dpi for photos. Lineart is a whole
different story. |

Submission Guidelines for Website
Hello All:
Suzy Smith and I are looking forward to receiving some great photos
and comments about the Class of '65 - 40th Reunion that has just
taken place.
Since I was not able to attend, this will be kind of a virtual
reunion for me and for other classmates that were unable to make it
to the Golden Triangle. Although, I would love to post every photo
sent to me...there is a bandwidth limitation so if you'll pick out
the best of the best that would do the trick. Clear, unfuzzy shots
would be best, I can only do so much sharpening without ruining it.
A few things will make posting items received a lot easier.
Photos can be submitted in one of three ways.
If from a Digital Camera:
You can e-mail digital photos in the jpeg format, which is the most
common format for digital cameras or
if you have hard copy you can either scan them, save as jpeg and
send as attachment or
send them to me with a self addressed stamped envelope to assist
with returning them.
Do not embed photos in a word processing program and send it.
Thanks!
If the photos do not come through, which has happened...it
may be that your ISP has a size limitation and you may have to send
one at a time, dependent on how large the photos are. I generally
don't have trouble receiving them as I'm on cable. If your computer
has a virus however, Comcast will kick it out and I'll never see
hide nor hair of them.
Very Important: Please identify the people in the photo if at
all possible. Standard Left to Right to avoid confusion. If you can
also provide the Date and Place that would be a real plus. Captions
are a wonderful thing.
Example: Left to Right: Jane Doe, Alex Whomever, and Lucky
Smith, Thursday, August 4th, at the "Old Towne Bar & Grill".
Text: E-mail or
if you type it up in a word processor, save it in the .txt, .rtf
or .doc format and send as an e-mail attachment. Please note
everything will be reformatted to conform to the web page.
